Abstract

This study descriptively examines Indonesia’s fossil energy supply, fossil energy intensity, and economic growth using annual secondary data for 2012–2022 from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Handbook of Energy & Economic Statistics of Indonesia 2022. Fossil energy supply is estimated by multiplying commercial primary energy supply by the combined shares of oil, coal, and gas. Fossil energy intensity is calculated as estimated fossil supply per unit of real GDP at constant 2010 prices. The results show that the fossil share declined from 96.08% in 2012 to 87.70% in 2022, while estimated fossil supply rose from approximately 1,193,776 to 1,543,275 thousand barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). Fossil energy intensity decreased from 154.49 to 131.79 BOE per billion rupiah of real GDP, although it rose again in 2022. These findings are descriptive and do not establish causality. Environmental implications are discussed using prior studies; CO₂ emissions are not directly calculated in this dataset.
