Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology has significantly transformed the educational landscape, particularly in the implementation of 21st-century learning. This article aims to examine the concepts, characteristics, essential skills, teachers' roles, and instructional models required to address the challenges of the digital and global era. The study highlights that 21st-century learning emphasizes student-centered instruction, active and collaborative learning, technology integration, contextual learning, problem- and project-based learning, and the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Furthermore, students are expected to master the four core competencies (4Cs): critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration, which are essential for success in the modern world. Teachers play vital roles as facilitators, motivators, inspirers, mentors, and evaluators while integrating technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge through the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. Various instructional models, including Discovery Learning, Project-Based Learning, Problem-Based Learning, Inquiry Learning, Contextual Teaching and Learning, Role Playing, Cooperative Learning, Collaborative Learning, and Discussion Learning, are identified as effective approaches for fostering meaningful learning experiences. In conclusion, the implementation of 21st-century learning is expected to develop creative, innovative, critical, collaborative, and independent learners who are well prepared to face the demands of the digital age and the future workforce.
