PROBLEMATIKA PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM PARADIGMA AHMAD QODRI ABDILLAH AZIZY

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problems, concepts, and orientations of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) from the perspective of Ahmad Qodri Abdillah Azizy. The study employs a library research method with a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected from Ahmad Qodri Abdillah Azizy’s works related to education, social ethics, and human resource development, supported by other relevant academic literature. Data were analyzed using content analysis to identify the main ideas of his educational thought. The findings reveal that Azizy criticized the practice of Islamic Religious Education for being excessively focused on memorization, verbalism, and formal assessment, resulting in its limited effectiveness in shaping students’ character. According to him, Islamic Religious Education should emphasize the internalization, understanding, and implementation of Islamic values in everyday life. His educational concept integrates values, knowledge, and skills based on social ethics. Furthermore, the orientation of Islamic Religious Education should not only promote individual piety but also foster social morality, critical thinking, tolerance, democratic attitudes, and the capacity to respond constructively to the challenges of globalization.
