Konsep dan Fungsi Qawa’id At-Tafsir dalam Metodologi Penafsiran Al-Qur’an

Abstract

This research aims to deeply explore the concept, history, and methodological functions of Qawā‘id at-Tafsīr in Quranic studies. As a crucial instrument in preserving the originality of revelation's meaning, Qawā‘id at-Tafsīr often overlaps with the disciplines of linguistics and Uṣūl al-Fiqh. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive-analytical with a library research approach. The results indicate that terminologically, Qawā‘id at-Tafsīr consists of universal propositions that serve as a means to derive the meanings of the Quran. Historically, this science has existed since the Salaf era in practice, but only underwent systematic codification as an independent discipline in the contemporary era through works such as those by Khalid al-Sabt and Musaid al-Tayyar. Analysis of the relationship between sciences shows that Qawā‘id at-Tafsīr draws material from linguistics and borrows logical frameworks from Uṣūl al-Fiqh. The primary function of these rules is to serve as a control tool against the interpreter's subjectivity, maintain methodological consistency, and ensure the relevance of the Quranic text amidst changing times. This study concludes that mastering the rules of interpretation is an absolute necessity for an interpreter to produce objective and scientifically accountable interpretations.
