Penguatan Pemahaman Kitab Tadmuriyah Sebagai Basis Moderasi Beragama Santri di Pondok Pesantren Imam Bukhari Karanganyar

Abstract

Although religious moderation has received increasing attention in prior studies, research specifically addressing the utilization of classical theological texts, such as Ibn Taymiyyah's Kitab al-Tadmuriyah, as an instructional tool to counter radicalism in Salafi-affiliated boarding schools remains limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation, constraints, and impacts of strengthening the understanding of Kitab al-Tadmuriyah as a foundation for religious moderation among students. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study design, involving the head of the boarding school, teachers, and senior students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis, and analyzed with thematic analysis consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the systematic instructional integration of Kitab al-Tadmuriyah effectively bridges strict theological doctrines with moderate civic behaviors (wasatiyyah), successfully filtering extreme ideologies. These results contribute to the theoretical development of Islamic educational psychology and social identity theory by expanding the understanding of ideological internalisation in traditional contexts. The study concludes that classical textual mastery plays a crucial role in shaping balanced religious behaviors, and recommends that Islamic boarding school stakeholders adopt integrated ideological-civic curricula. The implications include theoretical contributions to the literature on religious education and practical recommendations for institutional policies in modern Islamic education. Furthermore, this study highlights opportunities for future research on cross-institutional comparative studies regarding theological texts.
